MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS AS A PI Have you ever seen the pitch that we have here as a title for this article before? Maybe you have. It is interesting, isn't it? A life of glamour as a Private Investigator, and a million dollars to boot. Sounds alluring, does it not? And then you find there is a price attached... So here is the scenario. you have found your "savior" on the Internet, the person that is going to "take you to the top". You are a struggling P.I., and you just want what everyone else wants, to be able to provide better for your family. And you are willing to listen a lot and even pay a little money to learn how to increase your income in the P.I. business. So, you decide to go to that "free seminar" given by one of the most "successful P.I.s in the business". And now you are there, you notice plenty of parking space outside of the building that the seminar is being held at. And you see him, just like he looked on the Internet, nice suit and tie, carrying a professional looking brief case, and walking from about 3 blocks away to give his presentation. Something does not seem right to your investigative mind. Why was he walking from so far away with all of the parking space so close to the building? Maybe he went out for coffee, and he is returning from his "coffee break"? In the seminar, he seems to have all of the answers. He is bright, professional, and you are hearing so many stories of his "investigative prowess", but that question is just nagging at you. Why was he walking to the seminar from so far away, with all of that vacant parking? Well, you listen on. It is amazing, he knows all of the tricks, and for $499.99 you can learn them too. So, you consider the investment. I mean, he has a nice suit on, and a very expensive brief case... He must be doing well. Nice watch too. And he has given you a few nice "marketing tips" already in this seminar. So, the seminar is over, and you are left to ponder an investment into making your million dollars. But, that question is till nagging you.. So, you decide to follow him when he leaves the building. Can't help it, curiosity got the best of you. And so you do follow him. You watch him walk back in the same direction he was coming from earlier. And you see him turn the corner after about 4 blocks, so you move to the other side of the street, so you can see where he is going without looking to suspicious. And now you see him putting his brief case into a yellow Pacer worth about $400.00, and then get in and drive off! Well, if you were smart, you would have just made a final decision on that investment you were going to make so you could increase your income.. Yeah, this was a small exaggeration. But it has a big point! Don't pay someone else money to show you how to do what you can learn how to do all by yourself. It also poses a question that everyone should be asking. If these P.I. Business "Marketing Geniuses" are so good at P.I. work, and so successful, then what are they doing trying to make money off of showing people how to market; instead of making money at what they are claiming to be so good at? The answer should be obvious. Okay, so here is the REAL DEAL! The only way to make your business succeed is through HARD WORK and PATIENCE! Expect it to take about 5 years from start up for your business to really start profiting. In that 5 year period, expect to pass out tens of thousands of business cards, make hundreds and hundreds of follow up calls, keep hundreds and hundreds of commitments, drive thousands and thousands of miles, spend hundreds of hours on the phone, and always be civil, professional, and respectful, even when it seems so hard to do. Yes, there will be some advantages to learning the tips and tricks of marketing, but you don't have to pay for these tips and tricks. They are freely available to you. All you have to do is read and practice them. And fortunately for you, I am going to try to get you started on that, and NO, I don't want your money!
